I could be wrong but this epic chase card seems to be intentionally referencing that movie, and the moment pictured in this exciting illustration is much like that moment in the movie where Marshadows influence causes Ash to take a negative turn

Sometimes even commons would have the small font, and this was most egregious because players opened such cards in booster packs more frequently (I'm looking at you, Balduvian Shaman!)
